What is distance learning?

Distance learning is different to classroom-based education. It enables students to study from home, or from any other location that is convenient for them. Students generally do not attend any lectures, but are provided with study material (online, via post, or via courier) which they work through in their own time. They are sometimes given the opportunity to attend voluntary tutorial sessions. Other than that, there is not much in the line of face-to-face interaction between students and lecturers or tutors. Some distance learning courses are examined only by means of assignment, while other courses involve examinations. Examinations are usually held at venues that are situated in major cities across the country. Distance learning provides students with a more flexible option for furthering their education.

What are the advantages of distance learning?

*  You do not need to attend classes. You can study from home.

*  You can study at your own pace and in your own time. You can decide whether you prefer to study in the morning or at night, for example.

*  You can study even if you have a full-time job or if you have other commitments around which you need to be able to schedule your studies.

*  Distance-learning is often less expensive than traditional classroom-based education.
